And .NET Fx v3.0 is born .......
In case you missed it, WinFx has been renamed to .NET Framework 3.0.
I have mixed views on this, on one level it makes sense as WinFx did make it sound like it was a departure/tangent from.NET Fx but on another level does it convey that .NET 3.0 is built on .NET v2 and extends .NET v2 capabilities? Jason Zander has a good blog entry that covers some of the obvious questions that arises from the renaming. Also Brad Abrams has more details.
It sort of reminds me of the OLE, COM, ActiveX, MTS, COM+ days? Does anyone remember ASP+?
Also, “InfoCard” has had the MS marketing scrubbers at it, and its now called Windows CardSpace (WCS).
Maybe its just me and 20/20 hindsight, but won’t all of this had been easier if the names were thought thru in the first place? Especially around the time that it was decided that WPF/Avalon was to be down streamed to XP and W2K3! Throwing all of these TLA’s and names around just causes confusion.
